Our Initiatives

We initiate, facilitate and advance education, research and cultural programs to meet the decolonial needs of B.C. First Nation communities. Our initiatives are designed to promote thriving First Nations futures, defined by self-determination and sovereignty.

Community development

Helping B.C. First Nation communities grow according to their needs, traditions and values

Each First Nation community in B.C. has its own unique needs, cultural traditions and relationship to their lands and waterways. We uphold this diversity by supporting and launching community development initiatives that revitalize cultural traditions while looking ahead to thriving, self-determined futures. Our activities include offerings of land-based education, specific claims research support and solidarity actions grounded in the context and needs of each community we work alongside.

Advocacy
Advocacy

Advocating for thriving, self-determined First Nations futures

Nesika means “Our Voice” in Chinook. We find strength in our unity with the communities we serve as we push collectively back against colonial forces designed to remove B.C. First Nations from their territories and traditions, which are the source of their power, identity and culture. We advocate strategically to ensure our communities can enact their ancestral lifeways, as well as free, prior and informed consent, in the face of political or corporate actors.

Redistributing power and reimagining the donor landscape

We reimagine the relationship between donors, the non-profit sector and First Nation communities to rebalance power and decision-making. The principles of trust-based philanthropy map onto many of the ancestral values of B.C. First Nation communities: generosity, transparency and reciprocity. We redistribute power in service of a more abundant and equitable philanthropic landscape for B.C. First Nations.
